What the American founding fathers meant when they signed the declaration of independence that stated that "all men are created equal" was that all white men who owned land in America are created equal, because they were the ones who could vote and participate in the new American democracy. So that meant that all the other people who lived in the USA, white who were poor or didn't own land, Immigrants, black people , Indians and women might be "equal" according to the declaration, but in reality they were less "equal" than people like the founding fathers, white men who owned land.
