Guy Fawkes was a Catholic monarchist and not a revolutionary anarchist.
Remember remember the fifth of November, 1605, when a Catholic monarchist by the name of Guy Fawkes was arrested in an attempt to blow up the British Parliament in what has become known as the "Gunpowder Plot".
The Gunpowder Plot was an attempt to blow up the English protestant Parliament and to assassinate King James I ,who was persecuting Catholics at that time, and to install a Catholic monarch on the English throne. Prompted by the receipt of an anonymous letter, the authorities searched Westminster Palace during the early hours of 5 November, and found Fawkes guarding the explosives. When asked why he had so much gunpowder, he replied that his intention was: “to blow you Scotch beggars back to your native mountains”.

Fawkes admitted that he had planned to blow up the House of Lords, and expressed his regret at having failed to do so. His steadfast manner earned him the praise of King James, who described Fawkes as possessing "a Roman resolution". Guy Fawkes became synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot, the failure of which has been commemorated in Britain since 5 November 1605. His effigy is traditionally burned on a bonfire, commonly accompanied by a fireworks display. To this day the Houses of Parliament are still searched once a year to make sure there are no conspirators hiding with explosives Before the annual State Opening of Parliament, the Yeomen of the Guard search the Houses of Parliament to make sure there are no would-be conspirators hiding in the cellars. This has become more of a tradition than a serious anti-terrorist precaution.

The Guy Fawkes mask has become a symbol for Anonymous - the same style of mask used in the V for Vendetta movie of 2006. The strangely stylised mask of Guy Fawkes with a moustache and pointy beard in the 2006 movie uses Fawkes as a role model in his quest to end the rule of a fictional fascist party in the UK. The Guy Fawkes mask has since become popular method of hiding faces during anti-establishment protests around the world. What few people seem to know, though, is that Time Warner, one of the largest media companies in the world and parent of Warner Brothers, owns the rights to the Guy Fawkes mask design from the 2006 Warner Brothers film “V for Vendetta.” and has made a killing from selling it to people who go on "anti capitalism" marches and protests.
However, only in our brave new world where people never read or know almost nothing of history, a mask which is produced by a multi national corporation and which is based on a fervent Catholic monarchist, is so popular with largely atheist revolutionary-Communist-anarchists, whom the real Guy Fawkes would have thought crazy for using his features in promoting their causes.
