When Trump says "Afghan" does he mean Queens NY?
Barely a day after the Pulse club shooting, Donald Trump, was calling again for banning all Muslim from entering the US, ignoring that the man who did this terror act was a born and raised American. Trump has employed the killings to justify his call for a temporary ban on all Muslim immigrants to the U.S., warning they could produce native-born threats. “The killer, whose name I will not use or ever say, was born in Afghan, of Afghan parents, who immigrated to the United States,” were his exact words. But the truth is that both Omar Mateen and Donald Trump were born to immigrant mothers (oh the irony) in the New York City borough of Queens. But Trump and Mateen were born just a few short miles away from each other: The candidate was born in Queens, and grew up in a wealthy section of the borough called Jamaica Estates. While, Mateen was born in neighboring Nassau County, approximately seven miles east, in New Hyde Park, a village of just under 10,000, according to a 2006 petition for a name change. Trump himself is the child of an immigrant, Trump’s mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, emigrated to the U.S. from Scotland.
