FB wants to remove all the non sponsored content from your newsfeed.
Facebook Inc said on Monday it was testing the idea of allowing only sponsored and corporate content and ads, along with friends posts, to appear on its users newsfeed. That means that anyone who will not pay FB money in order to be shown in the the news feed, will be removed from it. Instead, all the other content from FB pages which you "liked" in the past, will be relegated to a "second class" newsfeed, which will have a much smaller reach. Basically all you will see on your newsfeed will be corporate ads, news from paying main stream outlets, and friends posts. No original content from FB pages and independent publishers, no memes, no jokes, nothing but CNN news updates, Iphone ads and other sponsered content, in short, nothing that makes checking into FB worthwhile. Sounds exciting, right? This new "second class newsfeed" system is already being trialled in six countries including Slovakia, Serbia and Sri Lanka sees almost all non-promoted posts shifted over to a secondary feed, leaving the main feed focused entirely on ads, sponsored content, corporate posts and friend's status updates According to Filip Struhárik, a journalist at Slovakian newspaper Dennik N, the change resulted in a drop in interactions across the country’s media landscape. “Pages are seeing dramatic drops in organic reach,” Struhárik said. “The reach of several Facebook pages fell on Thursday and Friday by two-thirds compared to previous days.” For Struhárik, there is one last catch: he doesn’t expect the test to be a huge success. “Newsfeed without news. Just friends and sponsored content. People will find out how boring their friends are,” he said. Besides trying to destroy its user experience of its website, and trying to extort money from FB pages, this move could also be FB's response to the criticism leveled at it for spreading "fake news". Because this new "sponsored news feed" will be making sure that the news you will see on your newsfeed, are the kind of news that are literally only sponsored by corporations and governments worldwide.
