Israel has been lying about Iran's 'nuclear weapons threat' for almost 40 years.
For almost 40 years Israel has been misleading and lying to its own people and to the world about Iran's nuclear weapons threats. Today Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed a “cache of files” complete with folders and framed CD cases, which he claims were obtained from Iran and prove Tehran ran a secret program to build nuclear weapons. Netanyahu claimed that said were copied from a "highly secret location" in Iran. Netanyahu said the files provided: "new and conclusive proof of the secret nuclear weapons program that Iran has been hiding for years from the international community in its secret atomic archive." There are two problems with that. The first is that Israel is literally the only country that is claiming that. Not the UN, the EU, the international nuclear weapons watchdogs or even the US claim that Iran has in anyway broken its commitments to the Iran deal. In fact The International Atomic Energy Agency and the signatories to the agreement have repeatedly confirmed, and have gone out of their way to state that Iran is complying with the deal as it is written. Now, if you want to take Israel's and Netanyahu word that Iran is building nuclear weapons , that's ok, but that raises a second problem. The second problem being that Netanyahu, for almost 25 years now, have been lying to the Israeli public and to the world at large about the so called "threat of Iranian nuclear weapons". In 1992, then-member of parliament Netanyahu warned that Iran was 3-5 years from assembling a nuclear weapon, a threat that must be " uprooted by an international front headed by the U.S. " Actually, Israel's government and media have been repeating this lie for almost 40 years now. Here are a few examples:
"Khomeini’s atomic bomb enters final stages of production with German assistance."
–Maariv, Israeli leading newspaper, April 25 1984
NY Times reporting in 1995.
Netanyahu addressing US congress in 1996 warning them of Iran's "imminent nuclear threat".
What most people are not aware of is just how badly Israel wants to bomb Iran's current nuclear instalations, and how it almost did in 2011. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wanted to strike at Iran’s nuclear facilities in 2010 and 2011, but was prevented from doing so, first by his army chief of staff and then by ministerial colleagues, according to Netanyahu’s former defense minister Ehud Barak. This again should come as no surprise to anyone seeing how Israel, in blatant disregard to international law and UN conventions, in the past bombed allegedly nuclear installation in Iraq in 1981 and Syria in 2007. The problem is that Israel cannot “go it alone” like it did with Syria and Iraq against Iran's nuclear sites, as was confirmed by Israel's head of the army and intellegence in 2011, it can only do so with US help. It's not far fetched to assume then that Israel and Netanyahu are lying about Iran's nuclear "threat", as they have been for almost 40 years now, in order to encourage the US to break ranks with the world when it comes to the Iran deal. Israel's ultimate goal is a military strike against Iran and its nuclear facilities, however this could only be accomplished with American help, and that can only happen if the US first back out of the Iran deal.
