Biggest human rights abusers, China and Russia, join UN's human rights council
What the hell is wrong with the UN? Russia and China will join the UN human rights council for the next three years. This is a new low for the UN, which will also see Cuba, a country which is ruled by a totalitarian Communist party, elected to the Human rights council. So the countries which will monitor and “defend” human rights worldwide, are also countries which not just ignore basic human rights when it comes to their own populations, they actively work to remove them.
Vladimir Putin.
Russia’s human rights record continues to deteriorate with every passing year, with the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly consistently restricted, in law and practice. Many journalists, or even regular people, who are critical of the Putin regime and its widespread human rights violation are beaten up, imprisoned or murdered. Those attempting to exercise these rights faced reprisals, ranging from harassment to police ill-treatment, arbitrary arrest, heavy fines and in some cases criminal prosecution and imprisonment. Political opposition members are routiny either imprisoned or killed. This is all without mentioning the widespread and systematic abuses Russia has been carrying out in countries like Ukraine, Georgia, Chechniya, Syria and other regions and countries all over the world. However even Russia's record on abusing “human rights” pales in comparison to that to the biggest totalitarian regime in history, People's republic of China.
Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist party.
China is already on the UN's Human Rights Council panel, where it plays a key role in picking the world body’s human rights investigators — including global monitors on freedom of speech, health, enforced disappearances, and arbitrary detention, but now it will also be on its powerful and important human rights council. In case the UN doesn't know, or just simply chooses to ignore, China is a totalitarian dictatorship that systematically curbs fundamental basic human rights from almost 1.4 billion people, including freedom of expression, association, assembly, and religion, when their exercise is perceived to threaten its Communist one-party rule. There is no freedom of speech, religion or press in China, or in fact any kind of basic human rights and if anyone tries to protests against that they are arrested, tortured, imprisoned and in some cases, have their organs removed from them while they are still alive. China holds millions of Uyghurs in mordern day concentration camps where they are psychologically and physically tortured on a daily basis simply for being ethnically Uyghurs. China continues to brutally occpy Tibet, denying the local Tibetans their human rights while persecuting the local Tibetans for the past 70 years. It is estimated that more than a million Tibetans died as a direct result of the Chinese brutal occupation of their lands, while millions fled the country and live as refugees all over the world, but mainly in India. And lastly, the Chinese Communist party was responsible for the deaths of over 40-60 million Chinese, its own citiznes, which it mostly starved to death or indiscrimatly murdered after seizing power.
There is no other way to describe the UN and its human rights council as an organization which is morally and ethically bankrupt. To put some of the worst human rights abusers in the world, like Putin and Xi, in a body that is supposed to defend human rights worldwide shows that the UN needs either needs to be disbanded or reorganized in such a way which won't make it seem like a complete and utter joke. If the UN and its human rights council existed in the 1930s, it would probably have Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia on its human rights council as well.
